When i began to carve my slab, i had to figure out how deep my strokes had to go to get the correct portion with out cutting through the slab of clay. When i began to cave i took little shaving of first to get a feel on how deep on layer should be compared to another. At the end i was able to get all four layers of my slab art to come out the way i wanted it with out cutting through the entire slab.
Artist Takes Risks
When i was carving my slab i had to figure out how to put texture into my trees. u had left some of the carving a little uneven and then pat it down to give it a rigid so give it the feel of being in the forest. Mrs. Barnett also let me borrow a piece of bark to make a print into my trees to give it even more texture and character. When i was doing this i had no idea how it would turn out and if it would even look good, but i took the chance and it turned out really good.
