I crafted together two giraffes coming in and out of two book case shelf, as a mom and baby giraffe. I had the body of the mom giraffe on one bookshelf with its neck and head on the other bookshelf and the baby giraffe half and half on the two bookshelf.
I was able to capture this idea of the two giraffes because my mom loves giraffes and mothers day is coming up so I thought that I could make something for her and it would be something that she loves. Some obstacles I faced where how to keep the heads and necks of the giraffes from falling over so I had to use a lot of coils to keep the base of the neck from falling over, but I was able to get the head from falling.
This piece, I like because its something that my mom will really like and I always forget to get something for her until the day is over. So I think that the piece will be one of my more favorite art pieces.
With the artwork of the cave I wanted it to look a storm on the outside but calm in the inside of the artwork. So I used spray paint to paint the inside because it would of been difficult to paint the inside with ceramic paint or regular paint. With the outside I used acrylic paint and basically threw the paint onto the top and bottom of the cave and wiped some off, to make it look like a storm.
It was hard to make the outside look like a cave and get it to look like how I wanted it, how it was in my head. With trying to figure out how to paint the inside Mrs. Barnett suggested spray paint so I tried that and it looks really good so I kept it. A video I saw showed how a guy used spray paint to paint iconic places using just pots and newspaper to create the picture. With that I took the acrylic paint and tried to do the same sort of idea for the outside and I liked how it turned out.
With this artwork I made is how I would imagine a cavern and storm mixed together. It shows that there is a calm in every storm and it doesn't matter how it looks but that there will always be a calm moment.
My art piece is morphing two animals into one animal. The two animals are a seahorse and a cat that I molded together by having the tail of a sea hose and the body mix in with the head and arms of a cat. With this I made a sculpture that is a sea cat. At the end I added fur in to the entire sculpture to make it looks more like the two animals that were morphed together.
I call the piece The Sea Cat but the seashore. I call it this because it is indeed a seahorse and a cat but the bottom part of the sculpture is going to look like the seashore when I add the glaze to it. The end result is what I wanted it to look like, I imagined what I thought it might look like and I was able to mold it into the morphed animal that I wanted it to be. I was inspired to create this piece because I love seahorses and cats so I wanted to morph the two together. In my work I show it my love for the two animals by creating how I like to see them when they play around.
I am happy with my piece and how it turned out, if it was any bigger than it would be too big for my liking but over all I am satisfied with the Sea Cat.
My Art piece is a coil clay art that I was at first going to make into a jar but I couldn't get the clay to stay up right and it would also not stay in the mold that I wanted it to be. So I decided to make it into a cave like piece similar to Carlsbad with the underground rocks. After all of the clay was in place I smoothed it down and put little rock like clay and larger coils inside to make them appear like larger rock inside the cavern. With it finished I liked how it look and how I think it will turned out.
I call my piece The Cave because it is a cave but when you look into it you can see all the rocks and the rocks that are growing. I think of it like this because when I was at Carlsbad I saw all the different shape and sizes of the rocks, so I tried to put that into the art piece and then make it ingot the cave that it is right now. The end result isn't exactly what I was expecting because when I first was making the piece I thought of a jar with a hole in the middle looking into the jar, but the clay wouldn't hold the shape so I decided that a cave with the top low and an opening would be better and it would also show what I was more about in art.
With my piece I am satisfied with the result and i'm happy with how it might look once I glaze it with many types of colors, but the work put into it was a lot and I wouldn't change how it looks at all.
1. I think my most successful art piece of this year is my sphere. I have never done this type of building with clay and I was nervous about how it would turn out in the end. When I started to mold the clay I thought it might turn out good and it did. I was surprised on how well i was able to score and slip the clay together to hold a sphere form. I believe that when I mold more clays into spheres I will be able to make the clay look better and better as a sphere over time.
2. I think a project that I over came most obstacles was the box, because it was the first time I made a four wall box out of clay. As I was rolling out the clay slabs I had to get the slabs all about the same length and size so that the box wouldn't be croaked. It took me some time to get it right but I was able to make enough slabs for the box. After I was finished with the box, I could tell I overcame obstacles with molding clay and designing how I want the clay to look like after it is fired and glazed.
3. One piece I believe has shown my growth as an artist is my box. I have never created a box before and it was giving me trouble with putting it together with the slabs being leather dry and I've never worked with that type of driness of clay before. But I was able to learn how to get the clay to slip and score and I think it turned out really good. My other piece I think I showed my growth was my slab, because I had to learn how to carve different layers of clay and make sure I didn't cut through the entire clay. I also had to guess at how to make each layer even and not make it look and be uneven. But in the end I learned how to carve different layers and make my clay slab look good.
4. Working with clay was fun, I've never really worked with it and it was a new experience. I guess I wasn't really frustrated with only working with clay because its the only type of material that I've used in beginning ceramics. I guess positives with only using clay is that I now know how to work the clay in its different forms of dryness and when to add stuff and when not too. I would like in the future to use more than just clay in art, it would be cool to learn how to create thing that are not just made from clay.
When I was creating my sphere, I had to come up with a way to put holes in it so that it wouldn't explode in the kelm. I had carved these scale like designs on half of the sphere and decided to carve in the some of the scales all the way. With the sphere I had really no idea what kind of designs to carve into the sphere. So I was looking up some different designs on google. I found one that was really cool and took it as my inspiration. I was worried it was going to look weird but it turned out really cool looking.
Artist Develops Art Making Skills
When I was carving my sphere I had to put holes in the clay to make it stable for the kelm. But I had really no idea where to put them or how to incorporate them. I had scales that were craved into the sphere that I decided to use to put the holes in them. When I was carving them I had to find a way to take the clay out of the sphere with out keeping the clay in the inside. I found this tube like tool that I was able to use as a way to successfully take out the clay and make it look really cool in the end.
When i began to carve my slab, i had to figure out how deep my strokes had to go to get the correct portion with out cutting through the slab of clay. When i began to cave i took little shaving of first to get a feel on how deep on layer should be compared to another. At the end i was able to get all four layers of my slab art to come out the way i wanted it with out cutting through the entire slab.
Artist Takes Risks
When i was carving my slab i had to figure out how to put texture into my trees. u had left some of the carving a little uneven and then pat it down to give it a rigid so give it the feel of being in the forest. Mrs. Barnett also let me borrow a piece of bark to make a print into my trees to give it even more texture and character. When i was doing this i had no idea how it would turn out and if it would even look good, but i took the chance and it turned out really good.
Artist Takes Chances When I was painting my spoon I decided to use paint that was not what I would usually use. With this paint I wanted to try new things and see how my totem spoon would look like after it was fired again. I took this chance and experimented with new ways to paint my clay. I hope in the end, my spoon comes out how I would like it to be.
Artist Solve Problems When I was creating my box, it didn't turn out how I wanted it. at one corner it was not at a point and I had to find a way to fix the problems. I decided that, with Mrs. Barnett's help, I would grad off the extra clay to make it smooth and not messed up like before. Because of this fixing in my clay I can now in the future know how to take away extra clay with out messing up what I am making.
Artists Creates Original Art When I finished my spoon i looked at it and realized that all three pieces on my spoon were all something that is important to me in a personal way. When I created the spoon, I was trying to express what I like to do during leasure time. At the end the spoon did break at the point between the passport and the weight plate, to which i had to repair it, but then it broke again. Mrs. Barnett did fix it because it would never stay together with me trying to slip and score it. With the clay box I had to think of something to put on my roller, to which I put ivy branches on it, ivy has always fascinated me. I had to get a little creative with hot glueing over the ivy branches that I drew on my roller, to which I got it to look pretty decent.
Artists Develop Art Making Skills When I was creating my clay box, I had to come up with ways to get the box not to be too small and to have precise measurements on my slabs. I had to be very careful with measuring my clay out and to get the right among of clay out. I also had to cut the clay and roll on the pattern with out breaking the clay at any point of making the eight slabs. I learned how to cut the clay not to little and not to big and to also to not have the slabs be to thin when rolling it out into the slabs. I think that with this experience I will be a lot more precise when rolling and cutting clay into what I need.
The first Artistic Behavior I'm writing about is the Artists Communication Through Their Work. I decided to use this because I did this to show how i feel with God, Powerlifting, and Traveling. When I crated these things with the clay I was showing what is really interesting to me, with the cross I did that because when I'm older I want to do mission trips around the world. The 45 weight is explaining that I really like powerlifting and that shows because I also put on there that I'm captain this year. With the passport, i really want to travel the world and see new things, to experience new cultures. I think I communicated that I enjoy all of these things and what i want to do with them when I'm older.
The second Artistic Behavior I'm writing about is the Artists Develop Art Making Skills, I used this while making the clay pieces to stay. Some of my clay was hanging of the side of the spoon and i needed for it not to fall. I learned that I can take pieces of clay and not to score and slip it but to just put it under it so it wouldn't be fired with the clay drooping. I also was writing on the clay and couldn't see the writing clearly so I took little metal cubes with letters and numbers on them to press into the clay and have it be visible after it is fired. With these technics I learned, i will be able to advance more in my clay sculptures.
